Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) PDF Print E-mail
Written by Norm Mendenhall

Q.  What is The Racing City Chorus?

A.  We are an A Cappella (without accompaniment) singing organization that specializes in Barbershop Harmony.  We sing in the unique four-part style of music created in the US in the late 1800's.  It is one of only two musical art forms that originated in the US the other being Jazz.  See our history section for more information about how we were formed and what we do.

Q.  Where do you sing?

A.  We sing all around the Capital District of Albany, NY.  We are based in Saratoga Springs, NY, but we travel all over singing at many events throughout the year.

Q.  Who do you sing for?

A.  Just about anyone who wants to hear us.  We have regular events in and around Saratoga like First Night, Hats Off, Final Stretch, national anthems for sporting events, churches, local Chambers of Commerce in surrounding towns and we even do charity work singing Christmas Carols at local adult communities in and around Saratoga in December.

Q.  Do you have any regular shows?

A.  Yes, every spring we put on a show that features our chorus and its quartets and we bring in both local talent and long distant talent from around the US and sing usually in either the Middle School or High School auditoriums.  It is May 23rd for next year in the Middle school Auditorium. There will be two shows, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.

Q.  Any other events?

A.  Yes, each year we go out to homes and businesses and just about anywhere and deliver Singing Valentines to sweethearts all around the capital district.  We usually deliver as many as 100 or more singing valentines on and a couple of days before February 14.  We deliver one or two songs from a quartet dressed in Tuxedoes and also deliver a rose, some candy and a card to the recipient.

Q.  How can I get more information about your events?

A.  You are currently visiting the best way to find out about what we do and when we do it.  Just go to the calendar and all of our events are listed there.  You can click on anything listed on the calendar and get more information.

Q.  How can I get tickets to your shows?

A.  We have an "E-Store" currently being set up so that you can order tickets to our shows, a singing valentine and other things as they become available and conveniently pay for them right from this site with your credit card or PayPal account.

Q.  Can I hire you to sing for us?

A.  Most certainly.  Simply click on the Contact Us item in the main menu and you will find people you can contact to find out what our fees would be, if we are available for your date or any other information you may require.

Q.  What if I don't want to hire the whole chorus but a smaller group?

A.  We have chapter quartets available to sing also.  We also have a new group called Saratoga Voices that is a group of about 15 or so who can also be hired to sing at your event.  See more about them elsewhere on this site.

Q.  What are your fees?

A.  That depends on what you want.  How large of a group you want, how long you want us to sing, your location and a bunch of other variables.  Our chorus contact person can give you all that information.  We are very flexible and can do just about anything you want.

Q.  What songs do you sing?

A.  Our repertoire changes constantly.  Each year we learn new songs and drop older ones.  Our current repertoire of songs is listed here and it is updated as we learn new material.
